Course Structure

Our virtual mediation training programme is a first of its kind in the world. We use state of the art software to recreate a real-life classroom experience enabling attendees to learn and qualify as mediators from home or work. The virtual mediation training programme follows the same content and structure as our flagship Phoenix Mediation Course. This is a 40-hour mediation programme accredited by the Civil Mediation Council (see course dates at the bottom of this page).

About the Program

Our virtual learning programme uses Zoom for Education software and is powered by AyoTree online learning. Joining the classroom is as simple as using your given login details on our domain and pressing “launch”. We work with you to provide comprehensive tech guidance and support to ensure that you are familiar with the software and ready to learn.

During each session you will be able to hear everything the trainer is describing and view exactly what they are demonstrating, directly on your screen.
Similarly, you will be able to see and hear your fellow trainees.
You can communicate with the trainer and your fellow trainees during each session by audio and chat within the Zoom chat box.
During the course, you will use a range of interactive learning tools to complete course exercises and activities.
You gain personalised, one-on-one mediation practice training from your trainer through the advance breakout room feature.

What kind of qualification do you receive at the end of the course?

Successful completion of the training and associated assessments will result in students becoming certified and accredited mediators. There are three bodies with which accreditation is achieved:

a) The International Mediation Institute (IMI)
b) The Civil Mediation Council (CMC)
c) The Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (CIArb)

Cross-jurisdictional qualification in the United States will also be made available to successful trainees.

Who will be the trainers?

All of our trainers are highly experienced and regularly mediate complex disputes within their respective fields. The trainers come from varying backgrounds within mediation and the legal profession. Most of our trainers also have university lecturing experience.

How long is the course?

The course is forty hours long and delivered over three different formats. The three formats are as follows:

• 5-day intensive course, full-day sessions everyday
• 5-week course, full-day sessions every Friday
• 8-week weekend course, half-day sessions every Saturday

Where is the course delivered?

All courses are delivered online. The content and methodology of the online training is however exactly the same as in-person training. The students attend all the sessions together and the course is highly dynamic and interactive. Around 60% of the training consists of practical roleplay exercises where students engage in a simulated mediation and receive feedback on their performance from coaches. The theory lectures also engage students in live discussion in the same way as an in-person lecture would.

The PDSL Mediation Training Course is internationally recognised for its high quality and academic rigour. The price of the course is £1,199.99.
