Vasantha is a seasoned expert with global experience. An experienced Dispute Resolution (DR) Practitioner and corporate and commercial solicitor, whose international career has spanned 42+ years. She was an advocate/barrister in several jurisdictions, a senior corporate executive within the multinational pharmaceutical industry and now runs her own boutique law practice.

She is a NMAS accredited Mediator on various panels including the Victorian Small Business Commission, the Melbourne Magistrates’ Court (SLEM), Domestic Building Dispute Resolution Victoria (DBDRV), the Australian Small Business and Family Enterprise Ombudsman (ASBFEO), the World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO), the Arts Law Centre of Australia, the Resolution Institute, Australia and previously with the Civil Mediation Program of the Magistrates’ Court of Victoria, Department of Justice and Regulation, Victoria and IP Australia.

Vasantha undertakes conflict coaching and uses various dispute resolution methods in the disputes she mediates. She is also involved with Elder Mediation and is a mediator member of the Elder Mediation Australasian Network (EMAN).

She is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (FCIArb), the Australian Centre for International Commercial Arbitration (ACICA) and a Panel Member of the Asian International Arbitration Centre.

Vasantha has extensive experience mediating commercial disputes both prior to and during litigation. These disputes, whether appointed through panels, privately by parties or via the courts involve large corporates, SMEs, Family Businesses, high net worth individuals and include high dollar value disputes.

Training is second nature to Vasantha. Her early professional life focussed on training adults in the corporate sphere. She then linked her practice experience to her 12-year role teaching postgraduate students at the University of New South Wales and more recently at Monash University. She now trains interns, mentors junior lawyers and dispute resolution practitioners as part of her contribution to the legal and DR field, regularly judges at national and international negotiation and mediation competitions and moots. She has also been involved with the training and assessment of mediators.

As an academic, Vasantha publishes in scholarly and professional publications and is an Editor on the Peer Review Board of the Asian International Arbitration Centre’s ADR Journal. She presents papers at conferences, runs workshops and seminars, and contributes towards raising the profile of mediation through various collaborations.
